KBC’s investment solutions are intended to easily enable investors to incorporate biodiversity and environmental stewardship criteria into their portfolios through the implementation of a rigorous and repeatable research process. Our research evaluates companies on a peer relative basis to identify industry leaders with respect to the protection of natural habitats and ecosystems.

Restrictive Screens that seek to exclude companies that manufacture or distribute socially detrimental products such as fur, firearms, tobacco, alcohol and coal.
Industries of Impact; Karner Blue analysts evaluate all industry sectors represented in the developed capital markets for their impacts on the environment and biodiversity including: mining, environmental services, furniture and home goods, chemicals, household and personal products, oil and gas and more.
Innovators; Companies that create opportunities to protect nature outside of their normal business operations are also considered for inclusion in the portfolio.
ESG; Only those companies exceeding the overall mean for ESG criteria in their industry (as measured by ISS-Oekom) are considered for portfolio inclusion.
Models for Benchmarking; Industry specific models were constructed of key biodiversity, environmental and animal welfare performance indicators, with an emphasis on climate, to include: food and agriculture, household and personal products, metals and mining and more.
Proprietary Research; Using the industry specific models, Karner Blue analysts evaluate and benchmark the performance of each company against its peers. Companies with excessive controversies are eliminated.
Industry Leaders; Those companies that perform above the mean of their industry are further evaluated using financial analysis.
